
Public Works Department
The South Lake Tahoe Public Works Department is one of the largest departments in the City, employing approximately 39 full-time staff members in six different divisions to provide the services necessary to keep the City operating smoothly.
It is the responsibility of the Public Works Department to see to the overall physical improvement and maintenance of City-owned property and streets. Public Works also keeps the rest of the City rolling through vehicle purchase and maintenance; and keeps the streets safe and clear during snow conditions.
John Greenhut is the Director of Public Works. The divisions and their duties are as follows:
- ADMINISTRATION
- Supports all of the Public Works divisions
- Provides public information for all public works related activities
- STREET MAINTENANCE - Maintenance and repair of City streets including:
- Erosion control/drainage facilities
- Pavement marking and striping
- Sign installation/maintenance
- Street sweeping

- Plowing and blowing snow off of City streets
- De-icing of City streets
